The first generation
It all began with Jaume Bordas Sagusta and Jacinta Sacristà, farmers in the Baix Llobregat. The Bordas dynasty was born.
It all began with Jaume Bordas Sagusta and Jacinta Sacristà, a farming couple who, in the 19th century, decided to start growing ornamental plants in the Baix Llobregat. That decision was the first step in a long legacy devoted to gardening.
The second generation
Joan Bordas Sagristà, an award-winning gardener, begins to expand the business.
With the second generation, the business took a great leap forward. Joan Bordas Sagristà became an award-winning gardener, recognised at several exhibitions for his improvements in the cultivation of ornamental plants. His effort and dedication laid the foundations of a family business that was beginning to earn its reputation.
The third generation
Jaume Bordas Estela introduces modern gardening and landscaping techniques from France.
The third generation, led by Jaume Bordas Estela, brought innovation to the business. After studying gardening and landscaping in France, he introduced modern techniques for growing flowers and ornamental plants.
His sister, Dolors Bordas Estela, also left a significant mark as a florist, strengthening the family’s ties with the world of floristry.
The fourth generation
Joan Bordas Brullas consolidates the Gavà nurseries and supplies trees to towns across Catalonia.
With Joan Bordas Brullas and Inés Barceló Mas, the Bordas family consolidated the business and expanded its activities with several nurseries in Gavà, Polinyà, Tiana and Cornellà. Thanks to them, many of the trees planted in towns such as Sant Cugat, Viladecans, Gavà and Vilanova i la Geltrú are part of the Bordas family legacy.
Their contribution to landscaping and plant breeding was recognised internationally, including the creation of an award-winning rose in Rome in 1953.
The fifth generation
Joan Bordas Barceló turns the nursery into a Garden Centre and stands out in landmark projects.
With Joan Bordas Barceló and Inés Fabregat Ferrer, the business modernised and became a Garden Centre. This period was marked by involvement in landmark projects such as the landscaping for the Barcelona Olympic Games and the creation of the gardens at the Hotel Melià and the Circuit de Catalunya.
During this time, the family also promoted green playgrounds in schools and rescued monumental trees, helping to preserve our plant heritage.
The sixth generation at the helm
Oriol and Inés Bordas run the Gavà Garden Centre, with gardening services and training at Aula Bordas.
Today, Oriol and Inés Bordas Fabregat, together with the Garden Center Bordas team, lead the business from Gavà. Their mission is to continue the family legacy with a modern approach, offering professional gardening services and training at Aula Bordas, and keeping alive the nursery that has been the heart of the family for generations.

Over 90% of our outdoor plants are grown in Spain, as are the products in our farm shop.
